Paranormal Activity

Film number three in the missed but 'must see' horrors from the last few years was 2009's Paranormal Activity.

Once again akin to the school of 'found footage' horror, this fake documentary centers around a couple who believe that their house maybe haunted and as such keep a video diary of weird events that happen (mostly when they sleep).

We find out during the course of the movie that the girl (Katie) has a demon haunting her for many many years.

I believe that there are a few different endings to this film and the version I saw was the original version and not the widely released cinema version.

I actually quite liked this film, however, it was no where near as scary as the hype machine surrounding it made out.

Overall I would say a 6/10 is a fair and just rating...I would add this film may have scored more if I had watched it at a very late hour with the lights off!!

Quarantine

This is the second of the horror films I read a favourable review of but somehow it flew under my 'MUST SEE' radar!!

I really enjoyed this film, which like the Poughkeepsie Files is a of the school of Found Footage Horror, which centers around the idea that a news reporter has been landed the story of shadowing a local Fire Department for a night. At first all is fun and games until a call comes in and the film crew and fire officers head to an apartment block to check out what appears to be a domestic disturbance call.

When they arrive an old lady attack a police officer by biting his neck. We quickly find out that a mutant form of rabies is infecting the building which is now 'Quarantine'd by the army and police.

This film was really fun, jumpy in places and very fast paced....However, I have found out since watching that it is a scene for scene remake of a Spanish horror film 'Rec'.

With this in mind I feel I must get a copy of this film and check it out as many critics have stated 'Rec' is the better of the two.

Over all its a 7/10

Much love

Poughkeepsie Tapes

Well today I decided to get right back into the genre of movies I love...Horror.

To do this I decided to pick at random from various horror review sites 5 horror films that had been rated highly that I hadn't seen from release over the last 3 years.

The plan is to see what I make of them and give a mini review of my own.

Today was the 'Poughkeepsie Tapes'

Much of this film nods the cap at such works as 'The Last Broadcast' & 'The Blair Witch Project' two films I happen to love!!

The general plot centers around the documentary film of a series of video tapes found in a house that appear to show the killing patterns of a local serial killer who has alluded capture from authorities for more than 10 years.

Each video tape shows the growth of the killer from his first kill (the abduction of a little girl from her garden) to his stalking of prostitutes and eventual capture and torture of a local girl.

This film was less scary and more disturbing than expected with a few occasions where I forgot that it was 'not real' with the onset of sweaty palms!!.

Overall a 6/10

Shutter Island

First serious contender in the top 5 films of 2010!! An excellent film.

9/10 in my humble opinion :)

The Crazies Tonight...ADTR on the 10th & AFI next month!!

Well as usual things go from fast to slow in my world...recently I have been planning my tattoo and working...nothing really exciting out with this to speak of.

On Sunday I went to see From Paris with Love...It was actually not too bad, a action film which didn't really require the viewer to have the brain switched on. And like a can of 'Ronseal' it did exactly what it said on the tin hahaha.

Tonight is the turn of The Crazies, the remake of the George A Romero film from the 1970's. It looks wonderfully wicked and anyone that knows me knows that I'm like a kid in a sweet shop when it comes to Zombie horror films!!

8 Days until A Day to Remember :) bring on the madness :)

And I have just purchased a ticket to finally see AFI next month..

Just thought I'd update on whats going on in my small corner of the world!!

Much love
