La Roux

I must concede defeat to Cozi today...she told me of this group La Roux and to be honest I wasn't sold on the hype...until this morning.

Whats not to like about a throw back to the good old days of 80's synth pop with androgynous singers and more catchy choruses than you can shake an angry stick at.

Their album is high in the album charts in the UK at the moment and their new single 'Bulletproof' is number one in the single charts..not that I follow such things.

This music makes me want to dawn the glittery make up hahaha :)

FACT playing in Glasgow 13th September.

OOOOHHHH I bought a ticket and can't wait now!!

These guys remind me so much of my long lost Mad Capsule Markets!! From the land of the Rising Sun they mix the best of punk, metal, electro and of course a bit of melodic stylings that only the Japanese can do.

Thad Ritchey

This mans tattooing style is formidable!!

Im happy to say that I shall be adding one of his fine works to my skin later next month...Picture will of course be posted on my blog, however until then check out his Myspace Page.

Here are a few examples of his fine work.

Transformers - Revenge of the Fallen

High octane speed and action made this an awesome film to chill out to when we got back from Alton Towers on Sunday.

Cant really say much more about it...its was awesome and made me miss the days of transformer toys and being a kid!!!

I give it a 7/10

Back from Alton Towers

Its been a long long active and eventful weekend!!

Alton Towers was a lot of fun (as it always is) and this year our crew morphed from the usual 4 people to a mighty 8!!

I managed to do a few things I hadn't had the chance to in the previous few year. The highlight was the new and very informative Shark Bay Creek!! A new aquarium that not only housed sharks but ray's, sting rays, and also some pretty strange creatures for the black lagoon ooohhhh.

Cozi seemed to really enjoy this and as such we intend to visit Deep Sea World as she has never been. We will try to get there over the next few weeks!!

The experience has made me crave a shark tattoo, sharks are my favourite animals and I think its time I got one of those bad boys inked on my skin!!

Alton Towers Here We Come

Oh yes my pretties!! Tomorrow me, cozi and a few friends hit this mad theme park!!

Pics and stories next week.

Have a great weekend bloggers..

Red Cliff

So I finally got a chance to see the new John Woo film, Red Cliff.

All I can say is that John Woo has cemented himself as the master of all things action. My only criticism was that the western release has 2 hours cut to shortened then film to a single feature instead of the double release which was released in the East.

The Plot...Red Cliff is based on a legendary battle in which a force of just 50,000 defeated an army of nearly one million. In 208 AD in the final days of the Han Dynasty, shrewd Prime Minister Cao Cao convinced the fickle Emperor Han the only way to unite all of China was to declare war on the kingdoms of Xu in the west and East Wu in the south. Thus began a military campaign of unprecedented scale, led by the Prime Minister, himself. Left with no other hope for survival, the kingdoms of Xu and East Wu formed an unlikely alliance. Numerous battles of strength and wit ensued, both on land and on water, eventually culminating in the battle of Red Cliff. During the battle, two thousand ships were burned, and the course of Chinese history was changed forever.

I give this film a 5/5 as this basically ticked all my boxes and made 2 and a half hours viewing fly in.

London Tattoo Convention 2009

Well well well things are starting to shape up for September.

I have finally confirmed the tattoo artists that will be doing a piece on myself and one for my girl Cozi :)

Amanda Toy will being doing a pirate doll & anchor tattoo for Cozi as the first piece on her pirate themed sleeve. Amanda Toy's work is excellent and very quirky with loads of colour and tradition elements.

Rudy Fritsch is a hero of mine in the tattoo community!! I think his work is original and refreshing but at the same time he mixes traditional styles with obscure renaissance portraits. I think I have secured his services :)

The tattoo convention lands almost on my birthday as well so we will be sure to make the time spent at the London Tattoo Convention count and party it up big style in London.

Mastodon at ABC (Glasgow) 7th June 2009

OH MY GOD!!!

Well I'm still slightly shell shocked from last night!!

Up first was Valient Thorr...they are from Burlatia, which is located inside the planet Venus near the three ice rivers, or so they claim.

They were all out rock and roll and front man 'Valient Himself' is probably one the strangest and yet engaging front men I have ever witnessed.

A weird almost 50's sci-fi-esq synth drone signalled Mastodon as they took the stage, the backdrop a LCD screen showing images of 30's/40's religious films, space travel, planets and of course Rasputin.

The band fired out, in its entirety, their new album Crack the Skye before leaving the stage triumphant.

As we were ready to leave the strange synth music drew them back on stange and we were pummeled into submission as the back drop changed into the Blood Mountain album cover. Mastodon proceeded to charge head on through several songs from this era before the back drop would change again to show the great white whale of the Leviathan era of the bands career.

Another set list of tracks from this album set the stage for the final charge...the backdrop changing once more to show the mutilated horse of the Remission era. The band finished with their big hit from this album 'March of the Fire Ants'.

An hour and a half had passed and we were left stunned and in awe of, arguably, one of the best bands of our generation.

Setlist was

All Hail the Mighty Mastodon!!

Terminator Salvation

Well I went to see this film on Saturday and was blown away by the amazing action sequences and almost life like effects of the war against machines, at times feeling I was in the trenches or in a falling chopper!!

The story wasnt amazing and Christian Bale is full on and uncompromising as the rebel leader John Conner...in the end I give it a heathy 8/10

Weekend's Can Be Busier Than Working Weeks!!

Well Scotland is officially in the midst of a heat wave!! We have been advised that this is likely to subside in the next few days but with sunshine on the mind my weekend was busy and semi productive.

Friday night right after work Cozi and myself went out for drinks with our friends Greg and Laura. Many drinks were drank and after one too many Sailor Jerry's Gregs hat made it on to Cozi's head....funny thing is she actually suit it.

Saturday...hangovers not included...we took a trip to Glasgow and I bought myself a new Iron Fist t-shirt and the new Guitar Hero Metallica.

On Sunday we had a Barbecue at Daves (my drummer) and the food and weather and company was awesome.

Anyway...must dash to work

Much Love
