Zed's Dead Baby!!

Well all I can say is OH MY GOD!!! How amazing are the Cancer Bats??

Set in the middle of the ABC's smaller sibling venue, ABC2, they hoared the crowd in to a frenzy like the mear mention of 'Swine Flu' to a group of newspaper reporters hee hee.

Their set was mix of old but mostly new material off their aclaimed Hail Destroyer album.

A week tomorrow I have the Gallows & Every Time I Die...can't wait to see the Buffalo Boys open up a can of whoopass!!!

Beltane tonight as well...pictures will hopfully follow.

Much love people

Wednesday's Child is Full of Woe!!

Well today I would appear to have the cold, and like the generous old soul that I am I have decided to come to work and pass it round the office haha

The general feelings are sluggishness, feeling heavy headed and very nasal speech haha.

I have had a pretty uneventful Easter and took a small shopping visit with my very pretty girlfriend (Cozi) to my country's capital Edinburgh.

She did most of the shopping and I soaking in the atmosphere, even though the main shopping street (Princes Street) is closed until November to make room for the new Tram system that will be in operation.

Speaking of Cozi, she has a new hair cut :) and allowed me to take funky snaps of her on Sunday night and Monday (in Edinburgh) to show off her new look. Check out her new look below:

Today im feeling very much in a Deftones mood and while drinking Lemsip I'm re-introducing myself to White Pony, Digital Bath might be one of their best songs ever!!

The rest of the week will be spent trying to confirm travel arrangements, accomodation & tattoo artists/designs for the London Tattoo Convention in September.

So far I have been in talks with Pierre Chapelan of Tattoo Mania in Canada & Jee of Human Fly in Spain. Cozi fancies something from Patrick Sans at Burly Fish in the USA & also something small from Jime Litwalk from the USA

I will update as to how developments proceed with my planned trip and the tattoo making decissions as and when they unfold.

Until next time, Much Love

30th April - Beltane Fire Festival

I have decided that this year, after 2 failed attemps, I shall be attending the Beltane Fir Festival in Edinburgh.

Beltane Fire Festival is an annual participatory arts event and ritual drama, held on April 30 on Calton Hill in Edinburgh. It is inspired by the ancient Gaelic festival of Beltane which was historically held on an evening after May 1st and marked the beginning of summer. The modern festival was started in 1988 by a small group of enthusiasts including the musical collective Test Dept., with academic support from the School of Scottish Studies at the University of Edinburgh. Since then the festival has grown, and as of 2006 involved over 300 voluntary collaborators and performers with the 11500 available tickets selling out.

I expect this to be an experience that will be hard to put into words but no doubt a blog will follow detailing the nights festivities. Below is pictures from last year that might help describe the night.

2009 - The Return of Genetik Blueprint

After a year of limbo due to various issues (Drummers very poor health, Bassist being fired from the band & finally tuning related issues) it seems very likly that in the next two months my band Genetik Blueprint will finally be reforming and hitting the practice studio.

Im pretty sure that this will mark the return of the band to the live scene before the year is out. I am overwhelmed at this prospect as it feels like sooo long ago since my last practice and upon investigation it would seem that since the last practice I have travelled to Sweden to meet and recieve ink work for the legendary Theo Jak & travelled to Japan.

Let me explain basically a bit about Genetik Blueprint:

Formed in 2004, we are a hybrid brutalcore metal band. This basically means me mesh grooves, heavy riffs, electronics & samples and very raw vocals to make a wall of sound that has been described as 'Heavier than an Iron Elephants Nuts' by rythmn magazine & The Scotsman described it as 'Sounding like a nuclear war powering through a set of speakers'.

The band consists currently of myself on vocals & sound modifications, David Buchanan on drums & finally Mark McCarroll on guitar and backing vocals.

I will be updating this page with more events as they unfold.

Stay Tuned

Much Love & Happy Easter

The Build-up to Easter Holidays

A short sharp working week for me with an extended weekend off has made me rather happy!!

However my lack of funds and lack of plans have made me reflect. Why has April brought me the blues?? After all it has brought the promise of summer with nice weather sweeping through central Scotland. Any time away from work is surely good?? So why am I feeling glum today?? hmmmm

Lack of plans possibly is the key!! Plenty to look forward to next month but not a lot this month...Yeah I reckon thats it!!

Well I may as well use my time constructively on this blog and at least pick my (by now) depressed self up.

Aparently Nu-Metal is on the come-back....I know what you are thinking.... how can a musical genre that died only less than 5 years ago make a come-back...if something has been absent by popular request and then return 5 years later can it be RETRO?? I dont think so rather I think it never really left. The big players are still recieving relative success and as such its easy for other bands to capitalise the growing 'Reform' movement of bands 2009 is bringing us.

As I am truely bored I thought a small collection of the best Nu-Metal had to offer through the medium of pictures would brighten up this bored and tired blog:

Enjoy

Spawn of Dawn 2009 - Edinburgh

Today at work is terribly boring, soo close to the weekend I can practically taste the sweet sweet Jack Daniels & Coke over crushed ice mmmm

So with the above in mind I thought 'why not kill some time and do a blog?'. So the topic of conversation is the disappeance of Paul Allan...I mean why not discuss my upcoming attendance at Spawn of Dawn 2009 in my nations capital city (Edinburgh).

Spawn of Dawn is an event that happens during the annual Dead by Dawn Film Festival, a film festival devoted to horror. It is held in the FilmHouse in Edinburgh

2800 minutes of glorious indie/classic/new horror films to tantalise my fiendish mind...bring on the gore!! The festivity will commence at midnight on 2 May and run right through, to say I'm excited about this is an understatement.

Eagles of Death Metal Last Night

Who or what are The Hot Melts??

As usual the ABC set the scene for another gig of splendid specter!!! The giant disco ball and packed floor with eager folks in the mood for a right good rocking were asking the very question I posed above!!

The Hot Melts are a strange but thoroughly entertaining 4 piece who play a miss of Beach Boys meets Kaiser Chiefs meets OKGO. Excellent live and with a good sense of humour this set the stage and warmed the crowd nicely as Jesse "The Devil" Hughes and boys took the stage.

Entering to 'Ladies Night' their set was uncompromising just like their front mans lustful antics onstage. The ladies love him the guys wanna rock like him and with a set that consisted of such hits as 'I want you so hard' & 'I got a feeling' & modern singles 'Cherry Cola' & 'Wannabe in LA'. They even had time to sneak in a massively rocking version of The Rollin Stones classic Brown Sugar.

I must admit at first I wasn't too keen on going to see them but they have indeed made a believer out of me, Rock n Roll ain't dead baby...its just coming home....CAN YOU DIG IT!!!!!
